Let's go to Saint François

Léandre de Schrynmakers was the 15th production boat skipper to cross the finish line of the first leg of the 23rd edition of the Mini Transat EuroChef this Saturday 9 October at 0h38'40" (UTC). In so doing, the skipper of DRAGO took 11 days 20 hours 8 minutes and 40 seconds to complete the 1,350-mile course between Les Sables d’Olonne and Santa Cruz de La Palma.

Learn more about the skipper

Léandre is 28, he worked in the food industry before embarking on navigation.

If originally it was just a hobby discovered at the age of 6, this hobby turned into a passion during his university years. He had the opportunity to join a sailing club to participate in regattas.

Thanks to his membership in the Royal University of Louvain Yacht Club that his interest in cruises and the world of sailing have been consolidated. He then decided to participate in this Mini Transat and to go solo for a first competition. Only one element was missing: the boat!

So  Léandre bought a Pogo 3 6.50m long and 3m wide, called Drago. It is with this boat that our skipper has chosen to carry out this transatlantic.

Drago has a particularity: he has already made 2 mini-transat with his previous owner.

Mini Transat Presentation

The mini-transat was created in 1977, and organised every other year. The 2021 edition will start on 27th September and will take place in two stages but with a slightly adapted route: starting in the town of Les Sables d'Olonne with a stopover in Santa Cruz de la Palma in the Canary Islands then arriving in Saint-François in Guadeloupe. Single-handed and without onboard assistance on a 6.50m boat, the skipper must be versatile and capable of taking on all the challenges that the Atlantic provides.
